Have your 2010 decorating plans have fallen by the wayside? Good intentions + New Year = turn that dark hallway or boring bathroom into something special for 2011……Here’s a really easy way to make sure you stick to your new years resolution: You will need: · Two different fabrics; · Thread; · A tape measure; · Wooden dowelling, which is slightly shorter than the width of your blind; · Four ribbons the length of your window, plus 1.5cm for seam allowance; · Double-sided sticky Velcro, the same length as the width of your blind; · A sewing machine; · An iron; · Pins · Scissors. 1: Cut the fabric Measure
your window to determine the size of your blind, then measure and cut each fabric to size. Ensure that you allow an extra 1.5cm for the seams. Pin the two fabrics together with the right sides (pattern side) facing, then sew both sides and also along the bottom. Don’t sew the top just yet. 2: Sewing Turn the blind inside out so that the patterns are on the outside, and then iron the fabric to press it flat. To create a pocket for the dowelling at the bottom of the blind, first drop the dowling inside to the bottom of the fabric. Next sew a straight line from side seam to side seam, about 1.5cm from the bottom edge to enclose the dowling at the bottom. Step 3: Attaching the Ribbon Pin the ribbons along the top, a quarter of the blind’s width from each side. Make sure you pin two on the front and two on the back. Place the Velcro (furry side) along the top seam on the front of the blind, then fold over so it’s on the back; pin it in place and sew along both edges. 4: Finishing Stick the sticky side of the Velcro along the top of your window frame and attach the blind to it. 5: Style it To raise the blind, roll it or fold it up and tie each pair of hanging ribbons to hold it in place. In years to come if you wake up one morning and your fabulous creation is looking more 2*star motel than chic boutique, rip it down, select two new fabrics and start again… simple!
