There are a lot of people out there, including some knowledgeable and respected individuals in various medical fields that believe strongly that sleeping on a traditional mattress can be very harmful to your health. They believe that sleeping on a natural mattress is much better for you. A natural mattress, or one that is made up of a natural form of latex rubber foam, contains none of the chemicals and carcinogens found in the makeup of traditional mattresses. This natural rubber foam in encased by organic forms of wool and cotton. (No pesticides used) All forms or types of traditional mattresses, (spring, memory foam, latex), are made up in large part by polyurethane foam. Several chemicals comprise polyurethane foam and many of these chemicals are known to be cancer causing agents or carcinogens. A process called off gassing naturally occurs with this type of foam and these chemicals are released during it. It is believed by many that we inhale these chemicals while we sleep on these mattresses and that can cause us to develop a myriad of health issues or diseases. The lack of these harmful chemicals in the make up of natural mattresses is a big benefit. Not having to dispose of this toxic waste is another benefit. The manufacturing process of all traditional mattresses is such that chemical waste is created when they are made. This waste, of course, needs to be disposed of and the effects on the environment from this can be far reaching. There is no such waste created in the making of organic mattresses. Another major potential benefit is a better night’s sleep. In several studies conducted to test the quality of sleep people got on certain types of mattresses reveal that most people enjoy more sound and deeper sleep from sleeping on a natural latex mattress. Proponents point to these te
st results as reason enough to purchase natural. The cost of all new mattresses can be high, no matter what style you choose.
